The child becomes more independent and slowly adapts to a school setting. This helps when it’s time to move to preschool, it provides a smoother transition.

Being around other children also helps develop social skills. The child learns to share with others, play with others, express his or herself, learns a bit of conflict resolution, learns basic manners, etc.
