Why Quality Early Childhood Education?

Published November 22, 2021 by The Leabridge

Children start learning from the womb and once learning starts it never stops

Research tells us that a child learns the most in the first 7 years of life. This makes creche / daycare and preschool a very important part of a child’s development

Most people often see a creche / daycare as a simple convenience for families with young children but it is meant to be more than that. A good quality child care facility should be able to offer a child more than just food, cartoons & a bed space. It should be a facility that is able to help your child learn and develop different skills.

BENEFITS OF QUALITY CRECHE / DAY CARE & PRESCHOOL

Schedules and Routines

Your child starts to develop a routine, not just in terms of wake-up time. This is because at the creche there is a set time for eating, playing sleeping, activities etc. So over time the child knows what to do at a particular time. E.g. when we wash our hands the children understands it is meal time.

Academic Development

Depending on the age of the child, the child is able to start learning a few things. E.g. nursery rhymes, phonics sounds, numbers, colors etc. Your child most likely won’t be able to read and write but he or she will be able to recite songs and identify things.

Communication

Being around other children of varying ages also helps with speech development. Yes, some children can be chatty and they encourage the others to talk and at times it’s just a case of the little ones wanting to do what the older ones are doing hence they repeat / copy whatever the older kids are saying

Fine & Gross Motor Development

Same thing applies to the Fine & Gross motor developments. Babies that are crawling are looking at the ones walking and want to do the same, they want to catch up with them. Children in creche often achieve this milestone earlier than their mates who are not exposed to this setting.

Confidence & Independence

Being in a creche setting also acts as a confidence builder for a child. After the child has overcome the withdrawal stage he or she is confident enough to wave bye in the mornings without tears. The child becomes more independent and slowly adapts to a school setting. This helps when it’s time to move to preschool, it provides a smoother transition.

Social Skills

Being around other children also helps develop social skills. The child learns to share with others, play with others, express his or herself, learns a bit of conflict resolution, learns basic manners, etc.

These and many more are the reasons why Early Childhood Education is necessary for every child.
